Consumer electronics brand Weston has announced its entry into the Rs. 700bn cellular phone market. To begin with, Weston will launch its mobiles in North & East of India where the company has a strong presence and they will subsequently be launched in the rest of India.
'Our foray into the telecom vertical is in keeping with our vision to provide consumers with high quality products at unmatched prices by following a no-frills policy. Our vision is to introduce the most affordable handsets in India keeping in mind the features to price ratio," said Mr Sunil Vachani, Chairman and Managing Director, Weston Group in a press statement .
' We plan to manufacture our own cell phones with R & D and designed adopted from China . A new unit for mobile phones will be set up in Sela Que in Dehra Dun, Uttranchal with capacity of five lakh GSM and CDMA cell phones per month . The plant will start production in 2011 . Till then the company will procure cell phones from OEM's in China where quality control and system will be done under Weston team" Mr Vachani said.
'With a target to build strong presence in semi urban and rural markets where the prominence of both subscribers and operators is rapidly increasing, we plan to launch high quality multi media handsets with host of contemporary features including dual SIM, FM radio, 5.8cm TFT screen, double batteries, double flash card,. Keeping in mind the requirements of users,
WESTON hand sets would come with features like High quality audio & video player , Java, Bluetooth, video chat, auto call record. Also WESTON hand sets would have built in answering machine to give users advantage of Voice Mail Box without incurring additional cost charged by service providers.are other interesting features to write home about" he added .
Speaking on the brand's expansion plans, Mr Pankaj Shama Business head, Weston said, 'By the end of the first year, we hope to sell one lakh mobiles per month in Pan India with a turnover of Rs. 250 crore and thereafter grow at 15-20% annually. In five years, we are aiming to reach a turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore."
'To start with company is launching 7 models with high end feature but in price bracket of Rs 1600 to Rs 3500with a one year warranty which is backed by after-sales service through an existing network of over 250 service centers.
'By offering contemporary features in a stylish yet affordable package, Weston mobile phones will represent a fine balance between features and performance while enhancing the ease of use." Mr Sharma added
